Can strategy games really work on a phone?
Strategy is the hardest genre to get right on mobile. You've got dozens of units, a map, resources, menus — and a screen the size of a playing card. Most attempts drown you in tiny buttons.
The ones that work, like Ironline Command, make smart cuts. They lean on pinch-zoom, clear icons, and pausing so you're never fumbling under pressure. Good interface design does more heavy lifting here than flashy graphics.
I've also come to appreciate strategy games that embrace longer sessions. A 30-minute match on a lunch break feels better than a dozen interrupted two-minute ones. If a game respects that, I'll stick with it.
So yes, strategy can work on a phone — just not by cramming a PC game onto a touchscreen. The best ones were designed for the device from the start.
